Bio*Aire UV
High Output Ultraviolet Light Air Purification System

Prevents growth of microorganisms in HVAC systems. Eliminates mould related musty orders.
High Output UV Light Technology Effectively Kills Microorganisms

Ultraviolet (UV) light "germicidal lamps" have been used for over 70 years to kill the same kind of microorganisms that are known to cause indoor air quality problems. The Bio*Aire system kills existing microbial growth, prevents new growth from occurring and kills microorganisms on the fly by. Elimination of excessive mould growth also frees up plugged coils, reducing pressure drop in the system.

The units can be used anywhere surface or airborne
microbiological contamination is a concern, including:
  • Hospitals
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Manufacturing
  • Clean Rooms
  • Food Processing Facilities
  • Laboratories
  • Water Treatment Plants
  • Office Buildings
  • Schools and Colleges

Bio*Aire UV System Improves Indoor Air Quality

Control growth of bacteria and fungi in HVAC systems to reduce or eliminate mould related allergies and other IAQ problems.
  • Eliminate musty, mould related odours.
  • Prevent development of Legionella and other infectious diseases.
  • Proven effective at controlling proliferation of TB bacterium.
  • Reduce the spread of cold and flu viruses as well as other airborne transmitted diseases.

No Health Risk
The Bio*Aire UV system poses no health risk to occupants or maintenance personnel as long as standard safety precautions are followed (available from Airguard). UV energy kills microorganisms without producing ozone or other secondary contamination. A proprietary coating on the inside of the patented Bio*Aire UV tube prevents transmission of lower wave length UV light (less than 200 nm) thereby eliminating ozone production.

High Output UV Energy Increases Microbial Killing Power

UV energy functions by penetrating the outer structure of the cell and alters the DNA molecule. Once this occurs, the organism dies or cannot reproduce. Germicidal effectiveness (killing power) is directly related to the UV dose applied, which is a function of time and intensity. The higher intensity output design of the Bio*Aire UV system results in substantially increased killing effectiveness with a minimal increase in power requirements.

Specifically Designed For HVAC Systems

Even though ultraviolet light has been used for many years to kill harmful microorganisms, this technology was not effective in HVAC systems. It could not function effectively and predictably in moving and/or low temperature air.

The Bio*Aire UV system was specifically designed to operate in these conditions. The high output tube provides up to six times more energy than traditional UV lamps down to 0 C. Fewer units are required, resulting in less total energy consumption.

The air flow velocity (l/s) of the air handling system is a major factor in determining the dwell time microorganisms spend within the HVAC cavity. It also affects the amount of heat removed from the UV lamps. The higher the air flow rate, the more UV light energy required to achieve the desired destruction rate. The high power output of the Bio*Aire UV system assures maximum killing power.

The typical standard for microbial control in IAQ applications is to destroy 90% of E.coli on a single pass. By increasing the number of tubes and reflectors, destruction rates in excess of 99% can be easily achieved.
